Blog #3: Meme This!
Developing an idea
From the beginning of this assignment being assigned, I had no idea what meme I was going to make. Last week I was completely stumped and could not think of meme for the life of me. Until, I was in bed the another night, and I got it. A COVID meme. What better meme is there, other than COVID-19?! I wanted to make meme using the iconic Coronavirus spiky ball image, with people on Spring Break in 2020, which is were COVID-19 made its first appearance. The idea within the meme are people on Spring Break smiling for a photo, and COVID-19 is present in the photo. I though this idea was meme worthy, so I did it.
Choosing the Images
This part of the assignment was not that difficult. Honestly, to collect these photos, I searched up "COVID Spiky Ball", and "people on Spring Break", and got these two images. I thought these two images worked best for this blog.
Moving forward--Preparing Layers
To bring this meme to life, I created a mask on Photoshop for the COVID Spiky ball, therefore, I would be to move the ball into the image of the people posing with others on Spring Break. I isolated the ball with the object selection tool, and then fine tuned and adjusted it to make sure nothing was cut/left out, on the original selection. You can see in this following photo that that added a mask to the original image layer. Thanks to the tutorial video, and our in-class discussion, I was able to prepare this layer successfully (Heagney,YouTube,2019).
With this next step, I was able to merge both the images together. Merging the COVID ball with the Spring Break image. Followed by this piece of text, you can visualize I made the ball a smart object, so I would be able to make the step of moving the ball in the image of people on spring break, in 2020.
