Blog Post #4: Heal Thyself

Choosing the distractions to heal/clone

Before I started this assignment, I carefully went through my meme assignment photo to detect what pieces in my photo that can be deemed distractions that I wanted to remove. I utilized both the healing and cloning tools to make these changes come about.  The two distractions that I identified with my photo were an "intrusions", which was the guy to the left of the girl taking the picture, and the "black holes", which were the black clouds in the back ( Ultimate Photo Tips, 2022).

As you can see down below, I selected the cloning stamp tool to be able to eliminate the distraction of the college student waking by on the left, which is an "Intrusion". I used the "alt, option" key manuever that we spoke about in class to drag the blue sky, the water, and the sand, to remove the man making him look like he was never in the photo (Heagney, in-class discussion, 2022). In the first image, no layers are applied. The man is still present in the photo, and the cloning stamp has still not been utilized. In the second photo, you can see the image has been altered. In the tools panel you can see I used the cloning stamp to remove the college-teen from the image.

From these two images the viewer is able to take note of the difference in the sky. Which is the removal of the clouds. I used the healing tool by again selected "alt, option)" then selected an area in the sky where it was just blue, and covered up those gray/black looking clouds. This tool aided me in eliminating the "black hole" distraction in the sky, making the sky look more clear, allowing the viewer to draw their eyes on the crowd and the COVID ball.

The Finished Product-- with both tools (Cloning/Healing) being utilized

You can see the man in the photo being an, "Intrusion" distraction and the clouds being a "black hole" distraction. With the finished product, both distractions are eliminated allowing the viewer an easy look at the meme without being distracted by the clouds and and the college teen.
